Grades and Curriculum

Our Curriculum

We are dedicated to providing a world-class education through the International Curriculum, which fosters global understanding, creativity, and critical thinking. Our curriculum has been carefully designed to nurture young learners from Early Years through Middle School, equipping them with all the skills and knowledge they will need to thrive after graduating.

From the earliest stages of learning to more advanced grades, our students benefit from a well-rounded and engaging curriculum that balances academic excellence with personal development. Our approach ensures each student grows intellectually, socially, and emotionally, and empowers them to reach their full potential.

Beech Hall School Riyadh’s International Curriculum offers students more flexibility to help them easily transition to other schools (either in Saudi Arabia or around the world) should their families choose to relocate. Thanks to our globally-recognised curriculum and our focus on transferable skills and knowledge, students can confidently join other schools that follow similar frameworks. The International Curriculum is ideal for families looking for stability in their child’s education. No matter where life takes them, your child can continue to learn without disruption.

Curriculum Overview

Early Years (KG)

The ICA International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) offers a research-informed approach to early childhood education. It has been designed to support children’s transition from early years to formal schooling, and focuses on the development of the whole child through play and inquiry-based learning experiences. This curriculum nurtures curiosity, independence, and a love of learning. This way, we ensure each child’s developmental milestones are met in a stimulating and supportive environment.

Through this curriculum and the Beech Hall School Riyadh Tapestry, we emphasise skills such as critical thinking and sustainability, with meaningful learning experiences. Teachers are trained to foster exploration and creativity, laying the foundation for future academic success and holistic development.

Primary

In our primary school section, which is from Grade 1 until Grade 6, the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) offers an engaging educational framework for all pupils. Guided by international research and evidence-based practices, the IPC emphasises a holistic approach to learning, blending academic achievements with personal and international development. Our curriculum aims to prepare students for life after Beech Hall, fostering a sense of curiosity and motivation to positively impact their world.

We provide a structured yet flexible framework, focusing on personal, international, and subject-specific learning goals. The IPC supports the development of essential skills such as adaptability, empathy, and resilience, ensuring that students are well-equipped for future academic and personal success.

Senior School (Grades 7-8)

For Grades 7-8, we use the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC), which has been tailored specifically for students aged 11-14. The IMYC combines progressive teaching approaches with a focus on engaging and meaningful learning experiences. This way, we encourage pupils to make connections across subjects and develop a deeper understanding of their studies.

The IMYC curriculum is structured yet adaptable. Each unit focuses on subject-specific tasks, and has been designed to engage students and support their academic and personal growth. By integrating personal, international, and subject-specific goals, the IMYC ensures students are equipped with the skills and dispositions needed for future success.

Senior School (Grade 9 onwards)

From Grade 9, our pupils begin working toward their American High School Diploma, earning credits across a range of subjects. As the only school in Riyadh on the approved list for the U.S. Embassy offering Advanced Placement (AP) courses, we provide students with the opportunity to take college-level coursework. In Grade 11, students, in consultation with parents and teachers, also have the option to transition to the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, which offers flexible academic pathways suited to their individual talents.

All students benefit from a personalised and well-rounded timetable that also includes physical education, swimming, drama, and music. Our staff are trained in both the IB and US diploma programs, and we also offer a comprehensive after school program featuring arts, drama, and sports for students in every grade.

Grading System

At Beech Hall School Riyadh, our grading system is different to other systems around the world. We follow a rigorous grading system in order to ensure that educational standards are maintained across different curricula. Although students coming to us from the British curriculum might appear to have dropped a grade, the educational rigour and expectations remain consistent.
